7th Grade Creative Writing #1

Post your creative writing assignment #1 below.

Assignment Details:

Step 1:

  • Write a rough draft on a topic of your choice. It may be a story, personal essay, or a piece of informational writing. Since you may choose your genre of writing, be creative!
  • Your writing should be edited and approximately 1 page, double spaced, in length.

Step 2:

  • Read other students' writing for this assignment.
  • Choose two students that do not yet have two sets of comments on their writing. Read their writing pieces, and take note of the strengths and weaknesses in their writing.
  • Write peer-editing comments for each of these two students. Be sure to comment on both their strengths and their areas for improvement.

Step 3:

  • Read the peer-editing comments on your own piece of writing. Using this feedback, go back and edit your work.
  • Later, you will be asked to submit a final draft of a creative piece of writing by the end of 1st quarter. Keep that in mind as you work on this rough draft. Your final draft will be graded based on the Six Traits +1 Writing Rubric.

Welcome to the Writers' Circle!

The Writers' Circle is a forum dedicated to the writer's craft. On this page, students will post their own original writing, and they will comment on other students' writing.

The goal of the Writers' Circle is to:
  • provide an authentic place to publish students' written work.
  • improve students' writing through a peer-editing process.

Your writing is an expression of who you are, but good writing takes work; it is rarely a natural gift.

Let's use this forum to become better writers and editors!
